Thousands of ACU exes and visitors are expected
to make their annual trek to the ACU campus this
weekend to cheer on the football team attend the
musical visit with old friends or participate in any
of the other numerous activities conducted during
Homecoming weekend.
This year the weekend's activities are built
around the. theme "Let's Have an Old-Fashioned
Homecoming." Activities officially open at 10 a.m.
Friday in Chapel when the Homecoming Queen
nominees will be formally introduced. The Coming
Home Queen Maria Shahan Alexander and her
court also will be presented at this time.
Throughout the day the
Mass Communication
Homecoming Proseminar
will be conducted in the
University Church of
Christ Activity Center. A 1
p.m. luncheon with Texas
Supreme Court Justice
Jack Pope speaking on
"Cameras in the Cour-
troom" will be the
highlight of the event. The
presentation of the 1982
Mass Communication
Alumnus of the Year
Award also will be made
at the luncheon.
At 2 p.m the Wildcat
Towne Boardwalk and
Student Foundation
Carnival will open on the
mall area. The carnival
will take the shape of an
old-fashioned town with
store fronts to carry out
the weekend's general theme It is scheduled to
close at 5 p.m Friday and be open from 9 a.m. until
1 p.m. Saturday.
A Queen's Tea honoring Mrs. Alexander and the
10 Homecoming Queen nominees is scheduled for 3-
4 p.m. in the Living Room of the Campus Center.
Judge and Mrs. Jack Pope will be honored as
Friends of the Year at the Friends of the Library
reception from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Mabee Library
Auditorium.
The first showing of the Freshmen Follies will
begin at 6 p.m. Friday with subsequent showings at
7:30 and 9 p.m. in Cullen Auditoriu. Show times for
Saturday will be 6:30 8 and 9:30 p.m. Price of
tickets is $2
rho chnw with the theme "Simple Splendor"
will consist of nine individual acts selected by a
Singing choreography and comedy acts will make
up the program.
The Homecoming musical will help carry out this
year's theme with the production "Shenandoah"
a play set during the Civil War. Weekend per-
formances of the musical will be at 8 p.m. Friday
and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Abilene
Civic Center.
The Saturday night performance of the musical
has been sold out for more than a month and
earlier this week less than 30 tickets remained for
the Friday performance. However about 200 seats
for the Sunday matinee were available Wednesday.
An all-school devotional
will begin at 10 p.m.
Friday on the steps of the
Administration Building.
At 10:30 p.m. a parade will
begin there and weave
through the campus to the
bonfire which will be
located on the lot north of
Gardner Hall.
Saturday's Homecom-
ing activities will begin
early with the social club
breakfasts sclieduled from
6 to 7 a.m. and a parents'
breakfast at 8 a.m. in the
West Dining Room of the
Bean.
A breakfast for the Big
Purple band and orchestra
exes is scheduled for 8-9:30
a.m. in the Main Room of
the Campus Center.
The third annual Home-
coming Fun Run which
will be three miles long will begin at 7 a.m. in
Elmer Gray Stadium.
Special departmental reunions will begin at 8:30
to9:15a.m.
Garvin Beauchamp vice president for student
services will receive the Exceptional Recognition
Award during Homecoming Chapel at 9 : 30 a.m.
Then at 11:30 a.m.-l p.m. a Homecoming bar-
becue dinner will be served on the mall area near
the Campus Center. Tickets are $3.50.
A pre-game show including a performance by
the Big Purple band and the presentation of the
Homecoming Queen candidates will begin at 1:30
p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.
Kickoff time for the football game between ACU
and East Texas State University will be at 2 p.m.
The 1982 Homecoming Queen will be crowned
SJ
panel of facultystudent judges in September during half time activities.
