Staff Member Shows God's
Love to Students
by Andrew Boss
Do you ever pay attention to all the people you see on campus?
For most of us the answer to that would be no. However one member
of the Hardin-Simmons staff makes it part of her daily job to do just
that Her name...Linda O'Kecffe. We see her everyday and she seems
to always be interested in how we are doing. We share with her and
she says an encouraging word but is she as concerned as she seems
to be? I was not sure myself until I was able to sit down and talk to
her. During that interview I found out for myself that Linda is a truly
honest and sincere woman.
She came to Hardin-Simmons six years ago to fill a job that some-
one else had told her about. Linda took the position and has been
encouraging students here since then. Linda feels that God put her
here for a particular reason as He does for everyone. If we make our-
selves available God will use us in any way possible. She is a firm

Mead Speech Competition Offers Cash Prizes
by Kristin Hawkins
Are you short on cash and
looking for a quick way to make
an easy $15 to $50? Well here's
your chance. On April 24 at 6
p.m. the Forensics Workshop
Class will be hosting the Mead
Speech Competition. Cash
prizes will be awarded for first
second and third places.
All HSU students currently
taking six hours or more are eli-
gible to enter. What's involved?
If you're interested in competing
you will need to write an eight to
10 minute persuasive speech on a
timely topic. It must be related to
current events serious in nature
and appropriate for a general col-
lege audience. The topic doesn't
have to be a national issue-it
may be related to a local state or
international subject.
The Mead Speech
Competition was started through
an endowment donated by the
late E.P. "Doc" Mead in 1955.
If you are interested in partic-
ipating you can pick up an entry
form in the Department of
Communications Room 202 or
206 Van Ellis. The application
must be filled out and returned to
Room 206 in Van Ellis by 5 p.m.
on Thursday April 20th.
We need you to make this a
success so if you're interested
please stop by and pick up more
information. And observers are
more than welcome--' peakeis
need an audience.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Invites Non-Athletes to Join
by J ana Broughton
Athletics influence all
kinds of people in some way.
Some may choose to partici-
pate in a sports event often and
some may not. However we
are each familiar with the basic
idea of a sport. Athletic termi-
nology has even crept its way
into mainstream conversation.
People facing challenges are
encouraged to be a "champion"
and "finish the race." The core
idea behind most sporting
events is to do your best and
cooperate with your team.
Such a philosophy is kept
by the campus group of FCA.
The Fellowship of Christian
Athletes is a nationally char-
tered club that believes in
reaching all those influenced
by sports for Christ. Athletes
coaches and all they come in
contact with need to hear the
message of Christ. The presi-
dent of Hardin-Simmons' FCA
is Stephanie DeBoom. Other
officers include Cindy Bosch
Niles Dunnells Chris Hatcher
and Melissa Kuhl. Dr.
Simpson is the FCA advisor
