New Street Plan Provides Easy Access to All Areas
In designing • street system
to handle Rrady’* traffic in the
year# to come. Rridge Street
must remain the principal north
south thoroughfare, at leaat foi
the foreseeable future.
Some widening and consid-
erahle traffic control device*
should he added to increase the
street’• capacity. Traffic aig
nal# and left-turn lane# should
be added at 17th and 11th
Streets, a* well as the future
Second Street major intersec-
tion.
On the north side of town
the White Street and Highway
l'.*0 intersections also should
have signals and turn lanes in-
stalled.
The improvement of Rridgc
Street along with other phases
of the thoroughfare plan, would
provide easy access to all sec-
tions of the city.
Magnolia Street. which

fare system of the future

ment of the "City Plan."
hounds the industrial dis-
trict on the east side, should
he a major thoroughfare for
that section of the rity. It
comprises the extension of
FM 2'109 fold Vora road),
and proper development
would allow ease of arresa
for large trucks and concen-
trated traffir on to the
northern part of the city,
Wall Street, on the west side
of the presently developed tom-
,-j munity, should he a collector
street. It ia not an adequate
1 street for this purpose now,
however, and it does not extend
far enough to provide easy ac-
tress to the high school for pro
| pie on the north side.
The Old Mason Road also
I should l»e a collector street in
I the southeast part of town, t'-c
|'if this street as a major then-
I oughfare should he diacoinaged
It is ideally located, however, u.s
'a collector to bring traffic
' toward the middle of town.
Crothers Avenue and North
Walnut Streets should eomprise
a collector street from the north
part of town This extends from
the intersection with Br idge
Street and goes on north to the
old Santa Anna road.
The two major east-west
thoroughfares proposed are
the extension of I . S. I!M)
(the Rochelle highway) to
the west and the extension
of FM 202* (the Dodge
road—17th Street) to the
cast. Their development is
| very necessary since there
is no existing cross-town
thoroughfare that ia ade-
quate.
Fleventh Street is indicated
as a collectoi street. This is al-
so an ideal location for a col-
let tor type thoroughfare, since
it is located halfway between j
the business district and 17th
Street and passes immediately
adjacent to the high school. I
This street would connect the |
major residential areas in the
south portion of the city to the
high school and to the proposed
loop on further west near the
race track.
White Street, on the north
side, also is proposed as a col-
lector street It is presently
used for this purpose but will
require considerable improve-
ment to function adequately.
