COTULLA - The Fund Drive
for the Brush Country Museum
continues, and a new list of donors
has emerged. A list of early con-
tributors was printed in a previous
issue of the Current To the people
who have responded to this drive
members of the La Salle County
Historical Commission are espe-
cially appreciative. The Commis-
sion sponsors the Brush Country
Musuem. and the main aim or pur-
pose of the museum is to preserve
the hisotry of the area in an infor-
mative and attractive way

La Salle County 4-H members
recently participated in District 4-
H Roundup held in Boerne. 4-H
members from 19 counties in South-
west participated in this activity
in the method demonstration
contest Clint Wolfe and Dwayne
Wiliams placed 1st w ith their dem-
onstration on Tomato production.
In the Extemporaneous Speaking
the fashion show and the local mer-
chantswhoarcalwayssowillmg to
help make these projects a success
ful endeavor

year's donation was used to buy a

ties to income eligible households
under the Texas Department of
Human Sen ices.
All recipients will be required to
complete an application in order to
determine eligibility and must bring
proof of income and identification

Texas lottery has announced that
its first million-dollar prize will be
awarded June 1K in Dallas. Eleven
more $1 million drawings will be
held weekly through Sept 3.
According to Nora Linares, lot-
tery director, the 12 $1 million
grand prizes make the Texas Lot-
tery the nation's first to award so
many large prizes in cash during
the first weeks She said the first
one million dollar prize will be paid
in cash, all at once, unlike the 10or
20 year payments some other state
lotteries offer

rority is a social organization made
up of women who takt an active
part in their homes and commu-
nity Each year the sorority has
programs of interest to the busy
women of the '90s The sorority
also serves the community through
scholarships, monies for play-
ground equipment at Amanda
Burke Elementary School and do-
nations to Alexander Memorial
Library
The major money -making event
of the year is the fashion show that
surrounding areas await with an-
ticipation This year's show "Sail-
ing into Fashion" was a big success
and was thoroughly enjoyed by all
who attended The sorority mem-
bers all willingly "pitched in" to
make it a great success

An K()-ycar-old great-grand-
mother graduated from Southwest
High School in San Antonio. May
20. 1992 Bertha Ludwig, sister-in-
law of Maggie Tay lor of Cotulla,
didn't get to graduate from high
school w hen she should have be-
cause Herbert Hoover was presi-
dent and the country was bogged
down in the Great Depression.
Time has a way of slipping by.
but she donned a cap and gown to
get her long-awaited high school
diploma during ceremonies at
Southwest IndepedentHigh School
On the program she recited a poem
"Our Life" and received the Certifi-
cate of Lifelong Learning She was
among 25 GED graduates.
Ludwig said finally earning her
diploma has been a longtime dream
"You have to use your head for
something besides a hat rack." she
said. So. she enrolled in General
Educational Development diploma
classes with the encouragement of
Jada Pitman, director of commu-
nity education for the Southwest
School District She attended two
night classes a w eck at Indian Creck
Elementary School
Bertha was widowed twice,

he died We are fortunate to have this
kind of service in Cotulla, especially
since we are so far from San Antonio
