COTULLA - A San Antonio
man was killed Friday, June 26,
when an unseeing 18-w heeler ran
over his body on the IH-35 road-
way . south of the FM 468 overpass.
Last year’s Watermelon King and Queen were
on hand for the official ribbon-cutting of last
Sunday's St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Water-
melon Festival at the church grounds in Dilley.

ARTESIA WELLS - Suicide
has been ruled as the cause of death
of an Artesia Wells man who was
found shot near his residence late
Thursday, June 25
PEARSALL — In conjunction
with Market Trail Day, the Frio-
Nueces Current is coordinating a
"Pearsall Community Sidewalk
Sale," slated for Saturday, July 11.
The sidewalk sale will be dis-
played in the July 9th edition of the
Current in the form of a two-page
spread. or "double truck," in which
local businesses can advertise any
specials or sales they wish to offer

(Steiner) was fatigued or whether
he had a seizure or anything," the

body with him at the time of the

to the court that several of the called

tionally or unintentionally, illegal
ballots because of their current resi-

One witness called by Alvarez's
attorney, which includes Adolfo
"Al" Alvarez, Jr., the son of the
contestant, was Mrs Olivia Keifer.

she had lived in Precinct 3 for 26
years Mr Barrera askedMrs. Keifer
if she knew why she had been called
as a witness She said she believed
she was being "harassed." When
Barrera asked by whom, she said,

an engineer who had handled a lot

Reports said a third person w ho
was with Arredondo and Valenzuela
at the time of their arrests was
charged with public intoxication

Officer Joe Ramirez. the three were

Arredondo's face and later found a

substance in his mouth

PEARSALL - The Pearsall
Police Department is looking for
two suspects who. allegedly took
nearly $465 in cash after breaking
into a local convenience store and
setting the business on fire early
Friday, June 26
Pearsall Police Officer Ray
Talamantes said arson had been
ruled as the cause of the fire of the
Brothers' Fina Convenience Store,
located on West Comal
Officer Talamantes said when
police officer John Olivo arrived at
the scene, the building was already
engulfed in flames
"Officer Olivo discovered the
fire in the rear of the inside of the
building." he said "Further inves-
tigation revealed that the front win-
dow and a back door had been
broken.

taken May 19 during a court or-
dered examination of election ma-
terials, which showed several mem-
bers of the Alvarez family, includ-
ing the incumbent commissioner,
handling ballots with pencils in
their hands. Mrs. Hoyle, who was
called to testify everyday of the
hearing, described to the court the
contents of evety photo admitted
into evidence.
At one point, after hearing alle-
gations made by Garcia of illegal
voters. Judge Cantu said "You give
me the names of everyone you say is
an illegal voter, and I will bring
