President's Report to MBS
I am proud have been elected the new President of
the Miniature Book Society, and humbled to follow in the
footsteps of Julian Edison and the other past Presidents, all
luminaries in the miniature book world. I want to thank
everyone who made Conclave XXVI in San Diego such a
success under the capable direction of conclave host Karen
Nyman. Those in attendance enjoyed not only beautiful
weather, but also Yachtfest, held the same weekend. Right
outside my hotel room door were vendor's exhibits that
included a small airplane and a pair of full-size Maserati
automobiles. (My entire collection of miniature books couldS1
D : /:easily fit in the trunk of one of these cars!) Added to that was the view of San Diego Bay
and luxurious yachts, one of which had its own helicopter! Members who arrived early
were treated to a gracious reception at Karen Nyman's home nearby on a hillside facing
San Diego Bay and the Conclave hotel. All miniature book enthusiasts had a great time
at Conclave XXVI. If you were not able to attend, you were missed-and missed out on
a great experience.
Next year's Conclave XXVII will be held near Princeton University at the Wyndham
Princeton Forrestal Hotel and Conference Center in Plainsboro, New Jersey. Conclave
host Jim Brogan is planning a wonderful meeting which will take place the weekend
before Labor Day on August 27-31, 2009. Mark your calendar and plan to join us!
In addition to me as President, other new board members are Edward Hoyenski as
Secretary, Karen Nyman as Treasurer and Membership Chair, and Kathy King and Joan
Knoertzer as members-at-large. Continuing members of the Board are Vice President
Peter Thomas and Kimberly Molitor and Jill Timm as members-at-large. Julian Edison
as Past President rounds out the Board membership. I look forward to working with
them and to serving you as we revel in the joy of miniature books!
