open again until Monday morning,

visor stated Tuesday. "The type of

that American boys will be serv-
ing in the cold countries by
August IS and the need U great
to keep them warm.”
Cards have been mailed to every
community In Runnels county
asking that women be at the Red
Cross room on the second floor
of the court house Friday after-
noon at 2 o’clock at which time
the issue of yarn and instructions
for garments will be made
There are a large number of
women still knitting on the quota
received several months ago and
they are not expected to quit that
work to begin anything new The
other quota is mainly for the navy
and will be needed by that date
Just as urgently as the new ship-
ment.
Any person who successfully
knitted a refugee sweater last year
can n 11 the garments In the
emergency quota With American
forces scattered all over the face
of the globe, knitting supervisors
feel that plenty of workers wtH
come forth to take all the yarn
on ha ad "It is a Job that those
on the home front can do. and
one that must be done or we will
be letting the boys down." was

comes from the war department
to the national organization.
Local people are asked to visit
the show window at the Higgin-
botham store and see the many
beautiful articles on display. A
close Inspection will cause volun-
teers for work to come fast. Is the

of the work locally
Knitted articles completed and
vacation.
The only places open during the
two days will be tilling stations,
cafes and drug stores and these
will operate on regular Sunday
hours.
Due to tire rationing fewer citi-
zens will be out of town than in
past years. Fair sized delegations
plan to attend the programs at
Brady and 8tamford but most
people will either remain at home
or spend the two days near here
on streams and lakes tor ■ short
outing
Military programs at Abilene
and Brown wood will attract some
on July 4 and others will remain
here lor planned parties Members
of the country club will attend the
annual celebration there which
will be held all day Saturday
Ballinger churches will have
special services Sunday with a
patriotic theme.

Men Enlist in Navy
At Angelo Station
The navy recruiting station at
San Angelo reported Monday that
eleven more Runnels county boys
have applied for enlistment In the
navy through that sub-station In
the past week Three of the men
have already been examined at
Dallas and accepted for duty
Others were due to report at
Dallas within a few days and if
they pass will be assigned to train-
ing bases.
