First of all, I would like to thank Jarrell Gaston and Jay
Hawks for the time and effort they put forth in serving on the
City Council. Now that the election is over, we need to get
down to business. There is a lot of business to be taken care of
in our next few Council meetings. A Zoning Commission has
to be established and the Tax Assessor-Collector job must be
filled, along with many other important decisions to be made.
Hopefully, the community will uphold the new Council in
their efforts to upgrade the city; and we will see less criticism,
at least until all the facts are known. No organization can be
run without making some errors and everyone can’t be pleased.
Our main goal is for orderly growth in Little Elm, and I’m
sure that some people in outlying areas may feel they aren’t
being treated fairly. We need to follow an example set by
many other cities and get developers in outlying areas to pay
their fair share for improvements made by the city. This will
enable the city to make improvements without raising taxes.
I received a call from Congressman Dale Milford in Wash-
ington last week informing me that Phase I of our sewer pro-
ject had been approved and we would be receiving a check
within two weeks for $7,500. This grant amounts to 75% of
the total cost of Phase I and gets us on our way to having the
long awaited sewer system.
The Council appointed Charles Forbes to fill the Water
Superintendent job and he has been taking a course con-
ducted by the Texas Water Quality Board which will help
him in his new capacity.
I would like to urge everyone that possibly can to attend
the public hearing regarding a site for the sewage treatment
plant. The hearing will be held April 11, 1974 at 10:00 a.m.
at the Council & Courts Bldg., Main & Freeman Streets, in
Duncanville, Texas.
